USB to Audio/Heapdhone

Just switched from Iphone and am trying to get my One working sensibly in the car....I found a couple posts talking about similar ideas, but nothing answering my situation, so I apologize if this has been asked/answered.

I used to have one cable for the iphone rigged up so I just docked it and it split the native dock to USB for charging and a 3.5" audio to the AUX of my car stereo. Does the One provide any means to do this from the USB port? Ie. some sort of micro usb/headphone adapter.

Right now I'm using a USB cable for charging and a 3.5" from the headphone jack for audio and it's just a mess in the car....plus the audio levels are always way different than when I use headphones so a line level solution would be better. If there isn't a stock usb adapater solution, is it possible to do somehow with a comination of MHL cables/adapaters. Bluetooth is not an option unfortunately with my stereo.

I am looking at doing exactly the same thing. And I too currently am stuck with the USB charger AND audio cable coming out of my phone in the car and hate it.I had a cable for my iphone that worked perfectly... Not sure why this is so hard...

I found one company on Amazon selling said cable (breakout; USB and 1/8" audio) that plugs into the MINI usb. The company is "Wisesales" or something like that, you can go find it yourself.

BUT

Even though its labeled to work, I have received 4 (FOUR!) of these cables from these guys and NONE of them work AT ALL...

As far as I know these guys are the only ones offering any such cable. I'm dieing to find a suitable solution.

The funny thing is that my first HTC phone, an old HTC Touch, had a mini-usb headphone adapater, but no actual headphone jack (which drove me crazy at the time). I still have the adapter in a box, but it's mini-usb rather than micro-usb. I searched on Amazon and found a couple similar mini-usb adapters, but no micro-usb ones and nothing that specifies the HTC-One (or even the previous versions of the One).

Given the correct adapter/connector, it should work. I got a MHL (Mobile HDMI Link) connector, and it plays music (only) through my home receiver. (Of course, this could represent capabilities of the receiver that aren't in a car head unit.)

May I suggest that what you are looking for may be unlikely to be found and that going a different route, say a bluetooth module with 3.5" connections may be an even better way to do things? That way you can change your music from the campfire being played from your car. ;) just a thought.

MHL is a digital standard, right? Basically a smaller HDMI connector? I had thought about this, but I assume it would require a digital-analog converter to go to the aux input on the stereo. Basically, the effect of going through the HDMI input of my home stereo and then taking the headphone output to the car stereo.....just need a box that does this much smaller and without power.

EDIT:
Actually, scratch that, this looks like it might be what I need.....although it's a little clunky with the VGA connector that wouldn't be used.

Has anyone tried something like this?

This isn't really an option just because the way my stereo is positioned, using a bluetooth dongle would actually be more cumbersome then my current setup with two cables. I am tossing around the idea of swapping out the factory stereo for one with bluetooth, but that's not in the budget right now.

I also know this is something that will probably affect many people in a similar situation, so I do think it's good to work out all the options.

I understand, I wasn't really trying to dissuade you from going the cable route, more just reminding readers of options. Using the mhl capabilities are probably going to be your solution but probably still not perfect. Best luck.

The 30-pin connector on previous iPhones (not sure about the new one) had dedicated pins for line out and headphone level output. These were analog outputs so simply tapping the correct pounds was essentially the same as using the 3.5 mm jack on the one.

Unfortunately the micro USB connection on the One is digital only, so no matter what type of rigging you try to make you're not going to be able to go USB to auxiliary in.

Also since android now uses MTP to access storage on the phone instead of emulating a USB drive head units that support USB drives don't work with the One either.

The "cleanest" solution which I think someone already mentioned is to get a bluetooth audio receiver with a line out and plug that into the head unit (think this idea was rejected already). Sucks but audio integration is one thing the iPhone still has over Android.

This is more like what I got. However, it was Rocketfish from Best Buy, which I cannot find on their site right now.

For only $8.16 each when QTY 50+ purchased - Premium Micro USB to HDMI? MHL Adapter - Black

I have a question about this MHL adapter. In the description of the product this is said: "The second cable has a female micro USB connector, which should be connected to a USB power source to power the adapter".
When you plug a USB power source in this female micro USB connector will this also charge the phone itself (so not only the MHL adapter)?
