Use new tiered plan or renew 2yr contract?

New phone time as my Original Moto X is starting to give me issues. I've been eligible for the normal verizon upgrade so I could get the Edge 6plus for $299 subsidized or switch to the new plans and buy a phone out rite, in which case I'd buy the New MotoX Pure for about $450 direct from Motorola.
I like each phone equally so looking for what is a better deal overall. Renew the current plan (UL talk and text + 6GB data shared between 2 phones) and use the verizon subsidy? Or change to the new 6GB plan and buy myself an unlocked Moto X Pure?
Currently paying $185 total with all taxes and fees for mine and my wife's phone. Would use the 6GB shared plus 2 devices on new plan.
I am stuck with Verizon no matter what, as all other carriers are real spotty in my home area.

Not sure your specific plan, but I believe that this comparison should help. If it is inaccurate please let me know what to adjust. I didn't include taxes or fees because those can vary.

That's going to be a huge help. Thanks for taking the time. I can take a closer look at lunch later and decide.
Am I right in assuming if I go with the middle option I won't be allowed to use that upgrade? Or is it something I've accrued no matter what?

The Verizon plan has no subsidized phones. You would have to pay full retail either in a lump sum or amortized over 24 months

The site still gives me the option to upgrade to S6 Edge+ for $299+$40 upgrade fee if I renew contract.

Correct. If you stay on the share everything plan or more everything plan then you can get subsidized phones. But you would not get the $15 per line access discount for being off contract.
