Updated my samsung epic 4g to 4.2.2 a couple of weeks ago. I'm totally new to all this and have two questions:
Is there a user guide for 4.2.2?
When my phone rings, I swipe to the right to answer, but then get a message to enter 1 to answer, have to open keypad and enter 1. How can I change this so I don't have to go through that routine?

Unfortunately i don't fully understand your problem, someone with more experience may be more suited to help but I did find a user guide for your device. With a simple Google search...
