Using an external dvd/cd drive/rom

Does anyone know if you can plug in dvd/cd drive/rom into slider and it play videos or load software?
My geek friends say that the slider isn't set up with the drivers so it won't work, that you need a windows os tab to do it. I know I can just use a flash drive and sd card but I want to do external devices and make it more like a netbook/laptop.

Nope won't work. You just need to buy what u really wanted, a notebook.
