Using an LTE smartwatch on Verizon

Hi - I would like to buy a new LTE capable smartwatch (thinking of the Galaxy Watch Active 2 LTE). I'd like to be able to send/receive messages or calls if I am out on a run without my cell phone with me.

I currently have a grandfathered Verizon unlimited data plan (not the current batch of unlimited data plans). Would I have to pay anything additional per month to activate and use my LTE capable smartwatch on my plan? Thanks
 
yes you will have to pay an extra monthly fee for the watch. how much depends on the plan. you going to share numbers or will it have its own? you really need to contact verizon or go to their community and ask there

As I understand it, the gUDP plans are single device and you can't add anything but your primary...no 2nd phone, tablet, watch...nothing. You'll need a completely separate contract (and number) for the phone.

Were it a current unlimited, you'd just add it as a 2nd device on the same contract, for which there is still a small monthly charge.

Welcome to Verizon and their love for the gUDP.
