Using AT&T service on Verizon Google Pixel

Hey all! Ok so I was given a Verizon Pixel XL, but I have AT&T service. Put my sim in and from the start it worked great, but I noticed it was still on the OCT. Security update, and I know the Nov. update is out. When I go to update it, it tells me that it is on the current version. I have been trying to update this thing for 2 weeks now with no luck. Well I used a sim card from my work device which is Verizon service, rebooted, went to the software update, and it was already updating before I could even hit the button to do it. So with all of that being said I'm wondering if anyone else here is using the Verizon Pixel on AT&T , and if you were successful at getting the software update?

Many thanks in advance! And Happy 🦃 day to everyone!!!!

I'm on AT&T and got the Nov.update
I got it on Nov10

There's been a few threads on this and I feel like each one says something different. Some people seem to get the update while others don't. I bought a Verizon phone and am using it with ATT and have not got updates. Im currently still stuck on the October patch. The guy above may have bought his phone direct from Google.

Re: Using AT&T service on Verizon Google Pixel

It is usually slower with AT&T for security updates and much much slower for OS upgrades. I got Nougat upgrade notification immediately after switching to Fi sim card from AT&T for my Nexus 6. I am using Pixel now on Fi and have not regretted leaving AT&T. So yes, SIM card matters even for pure Google phones.

I did purchase my phone from Google Store

That kind of makes a big difference.

OP: The verizon pixel wont update without a verizon sim installed. I have video proving this. I'm not saying the few people who claim to have gotten them are lying, but without eveidence I don't really know what to think. All I know FOR A FACT is mine would not update, and I shot a vid to prove it.

Perhaps if you remove the AT&T sim card, that you can initiate the software update via WiFi. Definitely worth a try.

Didn't work for me. But it may work.

I had Best Buy pixel for a week with my AT&T sim and never got an update. Received my XL from Google and as so as I inserted my sim, I got the update OTA. Nov security and NDE63V model.

I inserted the Verizon sim into the phone and checked for updates. It showed one available so I proceeded to install. Everything actually worked and now I am at build NDE63X from the previous 63N build. I do NOT have Verizon service fyi. I took the sim out and put my ATT sim and everything seems fine.

Yes this is exactly what I have found as well.

Yup this is what I had to do. Luckily I have both services, but this kind of sucks too. I would buy the Pixel from Google unlocked, but I got this for free, so I'm finding it hard to justify that purchase.

Thank you all for the responses, but I think the consenus is it won't work without a Verizon card. And I'm with Sean David, I'm not saying the folks who say they got it to work are lying at all, but most of what I have read, and witnessed it only works with an active Verizon sim card.

I tried every which way, I even downloaded the update, swapped my att sim in and hit install really quick before it disappeared, and it got all the way to the end, failed, then said up to date again. That's how crooked google and verizon are being about this. Even if your phone finds and downloads an update, as soon as you remove the verizon sim the update disappears right in front of your eyes.

You can install the update with the inactive Verizon sim in the phone like I did. Then once it's finished swap out for another. It's definitely not ideal but at least it works for now.

Oh I returned mine already because of it. I know it's a workaround but I didn't feel like keeping track of a tiny sim card for a year or so, constantly having to check forums to see when updates are pushed, then swapping and checking, swapping and checking every day until I got it.

One of the multiple reasons I returned mine to Best Buy and went google.

This is exactly how I feel, but again mine was free so I'm trying hard not to complain??????!

So the verizon variant won't pull down updates as fast as the Google Store variant? (with an ATT sim).

What's the path of OTA coming from the Verizon SIM to the Verizon bought Pixel? If it's coming from Verizon, it's missing authenticity checks on their servers and no updates except for the most critical that are pushed directly from Google will ever touch it without them being able to verify their device internally. If it's coming from Google, then this check doesn't make sense at all and needs to be protested.
