Using external drive with Pixel Fold

More curiosity than need.

A month or so back someone comments on various adapters to connect external drives or thumb drives to the Fold.

I tried back then and could not access the drive. For another purpose I got a USB A (female) to USB C Male cable yesterday. But this morning I thought I would try again to connect a drive to the Fold. While I get a prompt to use it (see attached photo) I cannot find it. I tried a variety of File Managers and none show any signs the drive is there or accessible.

There is no additional notification in the drop down to turn anything on.

Any ideas?

What filesystem is the hard drive set up with? If it's NTFS, that might be why an Android device can't read it: https://www.transcend-info.com/support/faq-897
