Will I notice Better battery life with the Franco Kernel when opposed to the one that came with AOKP Milestone 5?

New at all this stuff, what would be the proper way to flash a new kernal? would I lose all my data like when I flashed AOKP?

kernel currently is 3.0.29-tuna-faux123-016+

The kernel included in AOKP I believe of the stock kernel Google uses. You will see decent battery life but to get the best I would definitely flash franco kernel. Running nightly 158 awesome on Milestone 5 here.

Probably better battery life, I think franco's is best, every phone is different though. I recommend buying his, its a good investment and lets you tweak more than AOKP's ROM Control does.

The app also auto downloads and flashes for you... but if you just want to try the kernel on your own grab it from his thread on rootzwiki or xda, put on sd card, and flash it. You don't really have to wipe anything, IMO, but wiping cache and dalvik is a safe move and you don't lose anything.

AFAIK AOKP still includes faux's kernel, unless that's changed with b35, I believe it was still included in M5.

His latest nightly kernel, he releases new ones with various tweaks every 2 days I'd say, more or less. The "M" kernels are Milestone, intended to be the most stable, right now up to M3. The nightlies might be unstable.. but honestly I've never had issue with them or known anyone to complain... he tests things pretty thoroughly before release.

Ok Just bought his app and flashed Milestone 3. ummm settings.....ya...where do I start?

Lol always a chance for topics to go awry.

Franco's app is an excellent utility to have, but it will take a little bit of time just getting to know all the function. I have been playing around with it for a while and I love the added features and the ease of access to the more advanced stuff. Let us know if you have any questions!

I just flashed the nightly 158, no issues.

I set the Generic hotplug to tun off cpu1 on screen off and it makes a huge difference with the new kernel.

Im at 4hrs on battery 88% left, granted with light use today, but enough that normally id be around 70% so i think its pretty good.

Should I mess around with voltages and such? not sure if id gain anything.

IMO messing with voltages is not worth the hassle. You can get a tiny increase in batt life but can cause instability. Just not worth it.

All I do is slightly undervolt my cpu voltages but aside from that I leave them alone. Check the other linked thread I posted my undervolting numbers that work for me.

Ok, next stupid question... What is a kernel compared to a ROM? So the big advantage of the Franco kernel is to help with battery life?
