I am going to get a nexus 4 and probably get straight talk for it. I was recently testing google voice out, and I was wondering how people typically go about setting it up on their phone. I know you have it forward calls and texts to your phone, but whenever my phone gets texted it is from some unknown number and has a +1(actual phone number) in the text itself instead of having the actual phone number displaying as the sender. Also, is there any way to integrate GV with the phones built in text and voice interface or do I have to download a google voice app and all that? I was only able to test this on my basic phone on verizon. Thanks!

If the sender is on your Google contacts, then GV will show that name in the text.

If you're going to use Google Voice, it's best to use the GV app for texting, not the native messaging app. It gets installed when you download the GV app to your phone. That way, people will only see your GV number on their incoming text from you and not get confused about who sent the text. If you use the native messaging app to send someone a text, it will show your phones actual cell number as the sender. The only down side to GV is that you can not (at this time) send or receive MMS, so you have to have your friends send you pictures via email. If they MMS you a pic, you wont even know that you never received it. Hopefully, Google will add this feature (MMS) one day.
