I'm on the preorder list for the Incredible and looking forward to switching from my BB.

In May I'll be in the UK for a trip and will need to use my phone:
will it work there - I'd assume so but wanted to see if anyone knows for sure?
Also - if I buy a local SIM card - any particular one or will they all work?

I do think the Incredible has dual radios like few of the BB phones.

the incredible will not work in europe

there's no sim card slot in this phone, it's dual band CDMA only, the other world phones (storm, tour, imagio, etc) are CDMA and GSM

Bumping this thread because I'm traveling to Spain in a couple of weeks, and from all the research I've done online it seems that the only way I'll be able to be online, check email, use g-chat, etc is via a wifi connection...

Does anyone has actual experience with using a Verizon smartphone (Droid, DInc) in Europe?

I know that the settings should be on "airplane mode, wifi on, wireless networks off" but has anyone actually used it this way successfully? Is there a way to try if that works before I go to Europe? I've heard of some people trying to use those settings only to come back to the US and deal with a $2-3K wireless bill...

Sorry for so many questions, thanks.

If you have the network antennas off and will be using only WiFi, you will not get charged anything... WiFi data doesn't count towards your data charges...

If you want to test it... You would have to be able to get your data usage in real time from Verizon, download a large file using the 3G network with WiFi off... find out the new number, then download the same file again over WiFi and see if the data usage changes again by the same increment... That's the only way I can think of testing that without actually going to Europe...

Verizon CDMA only phone only work in North America. You need GSM in every other country of the world.

Qazme, he's asking if he puts the phone in Airplane mode with the WiFi antenna being the only one on if he will incur any usage charges... Which, he wouldn't as he was accessingthe WiFi providers hotspot, not any mobile telephone antennas...

what about Brazil? I read somewhere that a CDMA phone works there.. I am heading there for 2 weeks in August and would really prefer not to dust my Storm off the shelf. (shudder)

I was answering this, he never said anything about WiFi.

HAHA, now I see what happened... You answered the OP who started this in April... BadPeekSell resurrected this post to ask the same question, but about WiFi in another country...

Sorry for the confusion, everyone. I kinda hijacked this thread asking a similar question that OP asked. Just didn't want to start a new thread asking basically the same thing.

Thanks for everyone's input.
