is it possible. i have a couple in mind that aren't on the list of readers.

one of them is an aluratek libre touch. i bought from loves truckstop becuase i had the credit not being used.

walmart also has a couple that are cheaper. half price. so i could take the loves reader back and still have credit not being used. LOL.

i really don't care for the actual reader itself. i'm just looking for a cheaper way to have a tablet. rather then paying full price for a tablet. specially since i really don't have a need for a 10 inch screen. 7 would be just fine for me.

my sister got the nook color for xmas. so it was free to her. and i did the sd card and root so she has the ereader. and if she wants droid tablet. she just puts in the card.

i want to do the same with these cheap readers that i ahve in mind. but like i said. i really don't care for the reader itself. i'd be tempted to just wipe and install a android OS. but the sd card would work as well.

like i stated. they aren't on the list. and google shows nothing for the aluratek i already have.

so is it possible? and if so, where's the instructions to make it happen.

for what my needs are. which is basically just surfing the internet while i'm haveing a meal at some truckstop somewhere. i'm just wanting to use something instead of using the laptop. something that is smaller to pack with me.

i'd setlle for a netbook. but that's more money then i want to spend just to have the basic internet surf. and my full fledged laptop was only $20 more then a netbook. during the holiday sales.

any response is appreciated. THANKS.

1. They will not boot from SD card

2. Are they already running a dumbed down version of android? If not they are already dead for custom rom development.

3. It is likely that there has been no development on these cheap no name e-readers as you get what you pay for. So unless you are a dev willing to put 100's of hours into making a custom rom for a new device I wouldn't bother with the cheap e-readers.

Save yourself the trouble and get a Nook color or Kindle Fire.

according to the reviews. the aluratek libre touch runs 1.5. don't now about the others.

looking for possibilities before opening the box. loves don't offer refunds. only in store credit. to which they really have nothing i want to use my remaining credit on. and the only reason i even have credit is becuase i bought a trucker gps that turned out to be the biggest P.O.S. so i traded for a much cheaper unit that works much better.

i got my sisters nook done. and figured that would be the perfect toy for what i want to use it for.

i've actually considered one of them windows ce netbooks i found at another truckstop chain. for $99.

like i stated. i don't really care for the reader itself. i'd just be happy with running android. i'm just looking for something bigger then my phone but smaller then the laptop as all i'm doing is surfing the internet while having a meal. and may be doing some typing. so i'm looking for the cheapest way

awww, heck. i see walmart actually has tablet pc's for $90. running droid 2.2. i'll just buy one of them.

If CM7 doesn't have a ROm for any of those you are stuck with what you buy.

Snowwy:

Koopa is giving you good advice. I have not seen or heard of a better deal than a recertified Nook Color with a duel boot card. Do yourself a favor! Take your $100; add a little more and get a recert N/C. Then get a Sandisk MicroSD card and do the magic!!! Quality tablet with CM7 and upgradable to CM9.

Good Luck!!!

@ cbill is steering you right. Since you've handled a Nook I don't see anything less making it for you. I used to have a white Pandigital Novel that ran Android 2.0 and theres no way I'd go back.

i'm just going to buy one of the tablets from walmart for $89. that be the cheaper way to go.

i just want the tablet. i don't really care for the ereader portion. besides. i can always download amazon and B&N from the market place and read books that way. if i ever wanted too.

Let me give you fair warning. You get what you pay for, especially with tablets under $200. Don't expect a smooth experience.
