Question Using Smart Switch for older Android phone transfer to Galaxy A15 5G

I just checked out the Smart Switch app reviews on Playstore and it was a somewhat painful experience. Many liked it and many hated it. Anyone used Samsung Smart Switch to transfer "stuff" from an older phone (I have a Moto e6) to a Samsung phone (my new phone is a Galaxy A15 5G)?

Specifically, I would like to hear from people re: their own experience using Smart Switch:

What worked?
What didn't work?

Thanks!

While I am able to tell you about my experiences with Smart Switch I have never used it to come from a different brand of device or older device but as a member of this forum I've seen several posts about other people's experiences. You probably saw some of the past threads about SmartSwitch pop up when you created your title. The site picks up on key words and displays similar threads that might contain information about the subject.

Anyway, I will say this, you're never going to find any app that everyone likes, you might find one or two that a lot of people hate, but not one that they all love. Even if it's a helpful app like SmartSwitch. Coming from a different brand there will likely be things that don't translate, like settings, fonts, sounds, home screen layouts, and the like. SS should be able to get all of your call logs, messages, apps and contacts, you know the typical stuff. If you had Samsung back-up and SS you might get a few more app related items too. Another thing that is going to hold you back is the older the OS the less SS is going to be able to bring into the new device. I didn't look to see how old your Moto is but Android makes changes and somethings get dropped or added and those things will not translate of course.

While I was not able to find any direct correlating videos, transferring data from old Moto to a newer Samsung, I did find this 10 month old video with 5 methods for transferring from Moto to Samsung. I don't watch all of the videos I find but it looks like it includes other methods if you're not completely sold on SS. Maybe there's a combination among these options that gives you more than any singular method, IDK, but it's the best I could find for you.

This was found with a simple internet search so maybe try your own search for better results.

Best wishes, I hope you enjoy your new device.

Thanks for your help! I really appreciate it!

One of the issues I have seen people struggle with is that (apparently) you need a lot of empty space on your old phone, because SS makes a copy of everything that will be transferred, and stores it on the old phone before moving it to the new phone. And my old phone is already pretty full of "stuff".

And fyi, my phone is a Moto e6 and runs on Android 9.

And I'll follow your suggestion and look for similar posts like mine for more helpful info.

Smart switch was made for between Samsung devices that's when it works flawless so doing it from another manufacturer will be some things not transferring over but if it doesn't with things highlighted try it couple more times I've heard people have good results that way.
