I have had my Evo since June 8th and have greatly enjoyed using it. After lurking on the forums and reading everything I could find, I am now interested in rooting it for two reasons...

1st...Wireless Tether
2nd...Android Screencast

I have found the correct way to root using windows, but I only use Ubuntu on my computer. I know it is supposed to be easier, but I have not seen, any where on these forums, how to do it. Can someone please point me to what I am missing?

After rooting, I would like to continue using HTC Sense as it is now...is this a possibility?

Ubuntu 10.10 Menacing Meerkat
Evo 4g with Froyo 2.2

Any help would be appreciated greatly!

It's pretty much the same as windows when it comes to commands. First navi. to you tools folder in the terminal. Then you have to
./adb kill-server
sudo ./adb start-server

That should get daemon started successfully
then i always sheck to make sure that it's running and connected.
./adb devices
should get
List of attached devices
****** device ----the *** should be numbers thats your serial number.

Then your commands would be the same just ./adb

After rooting you will still have sense and as long as you flash a rom that is based off sprints RUU or OTA you will have sense.

AOSP/cyanogen= no HTCsense

Couldn't it be possible to run Windows through a virtual machine much like we do with ubuntu to cook roms?

If you wanted to but once you run linux why would you want to go back.lol
I stopped using virtual and went dual boot on one and full blown ubuntu on my other pc.

I have read quite a bit about the Warm TwoPointTwo rom...Would that be a good one to take advantage of?

I do believe I will be rooting my phone tonight and I will post more if I have questions. Thank you for your help!
