I'm sure the title set off a few noob alarms
Everything I've read online says USB 3.0 is backwards compatible with USB 2.0. I recently bought a pair of Anker micro USB 3.0 cables from Amazon UK (can't post a link). When I use these to try to connect my Samsung S5 to my computers, I get mixed results.
On my desktop: plugging into a USB 3.0 port on the motherboard works fine. The USB front panel of my case is USB 2.0 only. Plugging the phone into these ports using the Anker cable results in the phone only charging, Windows does see it. These ports work fine with the phone if I use a micro USB 2.0 cable.
On my laptop, all the ports as USB 2.0. Plugging the phone into the standard ports results in the phone only charging, Linux does mount the phone. However, plug the phone into the yellow "always on" port and my phone is detected.
Do I have duff cable, duff phone or there some odd incompatibility here?
Thanks, Anders.
