Using VR with glasses and controller question

Hello,

I am going to purchase the VR s6 tomorrow but my two questions are...How is it when it comes to the people who wear glasses? Also, if you're playing a game, how do you play these shooting games that I see posted? Does it come with a controller or something?

I don't know specifically about the S6 version (I've not seen one in person) but I suspect what I wrote below applies to the S6 version too. I have the Note 4 version.

GLASSES
"Can you wear glasses with the Gear VR?"
It depends. I just tried it with my glasses on and I can. It's not as comfortable as when I have my glasses off but I can do it. My glasses have relatively small lenses and thin frames so maybe that helps. I could see it not working with larger lenses and frames. But, with my glasses on, it's still fits tightly. I wouldn't wear my glasses in it for very long.

There is a dial on top of the Gear VR that allows you to move the Gear VR optics to help get things into focus. My prescription is not too strong but strong enough that I need my glasses to read up-close. I do just fine in the Gear VR without my glasses on and prefer to play without my glass on.

CONTROLLERS
- "...how do you play these shooting games?..."
Most apps/games don't require a controller. Some do. I can think of several of the shooting games that don't require a controller, 1) Element Engine, 2) Shooting Showdown 2. 3) Bandit Six, 4) Mortal Blitz, 5) Dodge this VR, 5) Romans from Mars. #1 and #2 above are a couple of my favorite.

I'd say about 85% of all the games and apps DON'T require a controller. With these apps you use a directional touchpad on the right side of the Gear VR - tap it to shoot, slide finger up/down/left/right to move.

But, I'd highly recommend getting a Bluetooth controller since some of the games require one. In my opinion, some of the better games are ones that require a controller.

One of my favorite first person shooter games is Protocol Zero. It requires a controller. I wrote a review about it in this forum. It's a very good game, well worth the $5.

I read someplace that the Moga controllers work well with the Gear VR. So that's what I got for mine. Switch it to "Mode B" for the best compatibility. You can find them in Best Buy and online much cheaper (for about $50) than in other stores such as Target (for about $80). So, do your homework and shop around, it can save you a lot of money.

This is the one I have:

It's bigger than another one from Moga but I really like how this one feels in my hands. It also doubles as a spare battery charger for your phone which helps justify the price.

It fits inside my Gear VR carrying case along with 2 spare batteries and a battery wall charger. But, you have to figure out how to pack it all in, it's a tight fit but not too tight to be crushing anything.

Enjoy your new Gear VR and post back here about your experience!

Re: Using VR with glasses and controller question

I just got the new VR for the note 5 and have no trouble wearing my glasses with it. I know this is an old thread but thought there may be new interest with the new release.

I am nearsighted about -3.5 script. I can wear contacts while using but the focus is poor even adjusted with the focus knob. I take out my contacts now for a much more clear experience.
