using wifi through phone

I was curious if anyone has used just the wifi on the tab using their phone? I have a plan but was thinking about canceling it and just use my phones wifi to access the tab. I want to know if the gps, internet and stuff like that works good using the phones wifi. I would use the tab mostly in my car for internet radio and gps. Any help will be greatly appreciated!!!
