V10 Camera App?

In doing research for my next phone, I had narrowed it down to the V10 and Droid Turbo 2 but then I started thinking about the G4 since the V10 and G4 are essentially the same phone except for the "extra screen", 1 more GB of RAM and the build quality. The only software difference is the "Manual" mode to the Video camera and I was wondering if anyone has found a way to put the V10 Camera/Video App on the G4 and see if it works. As solid and tough as the V10 is, it's still a little big for me and if I can get all the same features in the G4 and it's less expensive, then why do the V10? I've watched several videos and pretty much everything else seems to be the same functionality wise.

the G4 camera and its app is all you need. Fantastic pictures

Thanks Jim! That's cool. I was more curious about the Video side, which appears to be the biggest difference between the 2. The video software on the V10 allows for the same type of manual control that the still camera does on the G4. I went and played with the 2 at the same time tonight and they seemed to be about the same in most aspects. The screen seemed a little brighter on the V10 but not that much. The G4 seemed a little cooler in the whites too. I played a few trailers on YouTube and they looked identical.

I found a shoot-off between the V10, Turbo 2, Nexus 6P, Note 5, Blackberry Priv, Sony Xperia Z5,
and the only one that seemed to do better than the V10/G4 is the Nexus 6P which seemed to consistently be the best on all still photography. Unfortunately, Verizon doesn't offer the 6P.

I'm probably leaning towards the G4, especially since it will save me some money without losing quality.

I agree for pictures, but the manual controls for video would be handy. There are some video apps on Play that give you more control, but they tend to be paid apps. Cinema 4K is one of them, which also lets you disable the OIS if it gives you poor video motion.

I also have Camera MX, which also has a "shoot the past" function, which is handy if you're wanting pics of kids playing or something else with random actions and your reaction time is too slow to get it as it happens. This function (which I think I read is also built in to the V10) would let you essentially rewind and see a pic of something that happened before you press the shutter.

I don't mind paying for apps as long as they are good apps. I'm still going back and forth to see if the build quality of the V10 is enough to make me want to pay more for it over the G4 or if the G4 is enough... GRRR... (and then all the rumors of the G5 possibly coming in February makes the decision that much more frustrating)

I think the G4 (and V10) are still the best choices for picture quality and low-light performance, especially if you're happy to use the manual controls provided. The Note 5 is about the same, perhaps slightly better in automatic mode, but worse when taking manual shots. I have never been particularly impressed with the 6P's image quality, except when compared to the (dismal) history of Nexus phone cameras so far. The LG camera apps on both G4 and V10 are also still the best available on Android today, as far as I am concerned. On the video side, I have had some issues with jello while panning a shot on the G4, but I also have gotten excellent results too. If video is as important to you as stills, then the additional manual controls on the V10 would help, but at present you can get the G4 for several hundred $ less than the V10, so I would lean towards the G4. Btw, the G5 is rumoured to not have expandable storage or a replaceable battery any more due to the unibody construction, both of which are important if you're serious about taking pictures and video with your phone. If that's true, then LG might be splitting their lineup into a more consumption-orientated G line (without SD card/battery) and the V line (with expandable storage/battery) similar to what Samsung did with the S vs. Note until last year.

Forgot about the Non-replaceable battery & SD on the G5 rumor. That would be a deal breaker. That would make sense that the "G" are the "Consumer" and the "V" are the "Pro" models. Kind of like a Honda vs Accura. Same basic cars made by the same company with a little more oomph added to increase the value. Both get you where you're going reliably but one is just a little nicer.

There were some people over on XDA working on porting the camera app from the v10 to the G4. Nothing had come of it last I checked 10 or so days ago when I picked up the V10.

I have a G4 and my wife has a V10 and it seems like her pictures seem quite a bit better than the ones I take of the same things with my G4. I may be overly critical...and suffering an acute case of new phone envy but they just seem better.

On a side note, I've given up truing to convince her that the V10 is just too big for her small hands but I don't seem to be gaining any ground. So much for trading my G4 with her.... :-(
