V30 Display Question

I re-bought the V30 yesterday after giving it a try on launch day and returned. I read some reviews that this screen struggles to transition from gray to black backgrounds and exhibits severe banding / gradient effect (not sure exactly the term, sorry).

For example, go on YouTube and play the video Sound of Silence by Disturbed, go to about 20 seconds in when the shot goes from black to white smoke around his face.

There is really bad clouding / blocking and banding around the smoke and it looks awful. This also happens slightly on my LCD TV and my IPS monitor, but not on my iPhone 7. Not sure if this is normal behavior for OLED? I thought this phone was the phone to finally allow me to ditch Apple for good, but this display issue bothers me. The point of getting an OLED phone is to have those great blacks and pop. If the phone can't do that properly, there's no point in keeping it. Curious what others think, thank you for any input.

I watched the 1st minute of the Disturbed video on my V30 and I didn't see anything wrong. If I saw what you are describing on my TV, I'd probably be upset though.

In fairness, my TV is a 4 year old Sony 1080p LED. So within the 1st minute of the video you see no banding or blockiness around the white clouds / smoke? Interesting.

Does not look like black crush to me if that's the 'smear' you are referring to- I don't have a 2XL to compare it to.

I see the banding as well, though it isn't extremely pronounced. Could possibly be the source material.

Same video on my iPhone 7 looks perfect though. I am stopping by the Verizon store to compare phones. I also have a display time out issue with a business app I use where I need to use a 3rd party app to keep the screen from timing out after 30 seconds. Not good :/

Well for what it's worth, my LG G4 LCD screen also shows clouding. Its not bad but my Samsung tv does it also. The tv is a few years old and it's LCD.

I see it now that it's pointed out and it makes no difference to me.

Thanks for checking on your screens / monitors. No idea why some screens don't show anything and others do. I did look at an S8 in store and it wasn't nearly as bad as the V30.
