V60 to OnePlus 9Pro?

Once again a new device is about to drop that has caught my eye. First it was the S21 Ultra (First time in a long time that a Samsung device has caught my attention) and now it's the OnePlus 9Pro

I'm wondering is it really worth upgrading from my V60? I would have to give up the headphone jack & DAC, and I don't know if I'm ready to do that. The OnePlus 9 Pro looks stunning, and I'm sure it will run smoothly on the Oxygen OS. I'm looking forward to playing with it at TMobile.

The 9 Pro would have to blow me away for me the switch. Here's the thing, how much of an upgrade is it really anymore. Better specs, more RAM, more storage, 2K, 4K, 8K, 500K screens. When is it enough?

The V60 does everything I need, so do I give in to the "wow factor" and "shiny new phone" syndrome, and upgrade for the sake of upgrading?

I tend to go 2-3 years before upgrading. Partly to give a larger generational gap so the improvements make it worthwhile, and partly because of that's when things start going south with my current phone. Until then, I don't really look at other phones just to not have that temptation. Marketing is great at getting us salivating over what is really not much more than a spec bump. If you were to pretend no other phones existed right now, are you still happy with your V60? Is there something about it you don't like or is no longer fitting your needs? If the answers are yes and no respectively, I wouldn't look at upgrading unless something just really blows you away.

But even something mind blowing must be kept in perspective. Do you really need more than a 1080p screen on a phone? I don't know about you, but I barely see a difference between 720p and 1080p, and no difference at all at higher resolutions on such a small screen. 1440p+ displays are a waste of money for me. 90Hz is about the limit I can see when it comes to refresh rates, but that isn't enough to get me to switch from a 60Hz screen like the V60 has, 120Hz is also a waste of money to be. For the cameras, 16MP is about the sweet spot on such a small sensor. The V60 has the 64MP sensor, but that is a hot mess when it comes to noise and I keep it set to binned 16 MP images anyway. So while a phone with a stupid high pixel count *cough*Samsung 108MP*cough* may sound mind blowing, I would actually see that as a downside and would prefer going back to a traditional sensor setup without the gimmicks.

The decision is ultimately yours. I'm only pointing out some things to consider to help you make that decision. For me, I'm still happily humming along with my V60, albeit I do miss my V20. Like I said at the start, it was something going wrong with my V20 that caused me to move on. It wasn't by choice.

I totally agree with everything you've said. On point. I'm just fighting with myself as the "wow" factor and that thrill of a new device kicks in.

My V60 does EVERYTHING I need, and then some. I'm completely happy with it, not to mention you can't find a better sounding device (as far as audio goes) anywhere. The headphone jack and DAC is what keeps me with LG.

Btw, I miss my V20 also lol

I was totally enamored by my LG g7 so the natural upgrade to me was this v60 what time was right. 10 months into this phone and I'm no longer all that thrilled with it. I was thinking about going to the OnePlus 8 or 8 pro put the nine does look enticing as well. In this day and age when you can't be too sure about anything, do you really need to spend the money? That's the question you need to ask yourself and make your decision based on that answer.

I've been having issues with my V60 so I just ordered the One+ 9. The pro was too expensive for me and the 9 is the same price as my V60 so no additional monthly costs...

The phone was just not as responsive as I would like it to have been. My LG g7 was far superior in my opinion. I've been using the OnePlus now for 24 hours and it is a really nice phone. The only thing is lacking is external storage. I can't use a memory card in it but it's not a deal breaker for me
