Verizon BOGO Deal Without Activating A New Line

I just spoke to a Verizon support rep, but wanted to get more opinions to make sure what I was told is correct and possible. I told them that I already have 2 lines of service but would still like to take advantage of the Note 9 BOGO deal and asked if there was any way to do this without activating a new line. The rep said no that a new line of service is required. However, she said that I could activate the free phone on a prepaid line, transfer the phone to my existing line of service, then cancel the prepaid line. I then asked if there would be any fees associated with doing this, and she said no. This definitely sounds too good to be true. I copied and saved the chat just in case. Has anyone else successfully done this? It would definitely be worth it to pay for a prepaid line for one month to get a $1000 phone for free.

Definitely sounds like that is not possible.

Especially since the the BOGO deal isn't an immediate free phone but a bill credit spread over 24 months, which is the life of a Device Payment Plan.

What I think you could do is -

Port out your line 2 (line 2 ported) to somewhere you have access to (another carrier's prepaid? Google Voice?)
Start a new second line (line 2A) and get the BOGO.
Change the number of the second line back to the ported out (line 2 ported) by porting that number back in.

Do I even need to port my existing line to another carrier or google voice? I am not under contract with any of my lines. Could I activate the new line of service with the free phone, then change the number of the new line to my old number since I still own the number, then cancel the old line after the number is switched?

Update: I spoke with someone else from Verizon and asked them the same question. She told me that any changes to the new line, such as changing the number, will terminate the promotion and I would be responsible for the price of the phone. Oh well. I wish there were other carriers with service in my area that I could switch to so that I could take part in a "new customer" promotion
