Can anyone tell me how good it actually works on Verizon? I am considering getting it since I am on an old unlimited plan it would be nice to buy an unlocked phone like this one. I read a few things about it but I wanted to see how people's experiences where on that network. Thanks.

I think signal strength is slightly worse than my old Turbo2, which was the best I ever had. Video calling and WiFi calling doesn't work, but don't care that much. Don't know if anyone got WiFi calling to work yet on Verizon.

Does the HD calling still work just no video?
Mine shows HD on calls, but if you put phone in airplane mode, then turn on wifi, I can't make a call. That's what I was hoping for, but not a big deal. Love everything else. Just got the update, so hoping for more improvement.

Yep. Works fine for me here. No wifi calling, but signal strength and quality of service just as good as I had with my galaxy 7.

It is so tempting to get this phone but I'm also leaning towards the S8

I had the s8+ and currently have the essential. While I can't speak for Verizon compatibility. I can say that the essential phone out does the s8 on everything but camera. Better battery life, apps open faster and run smoother. 128gb of storage is awesome, the finger print scanner is in the right spot lol. Zero bloatware, which is amazing. Samsung packs the s8 full of **** you can't delete ever, the only apps you can't delete on the essential are the core google apps.

You will get Oreo on essential before the s8, you will get every update faster on the essential phone. I'm really looking forward to the modular aspect of this phone.

I appreciate your comparison between both devices. It seems like this device is getting a lot of updates which is a good thing to stay on top of.

The s8 screen is better unless you like more muted colors. I got rid of my s8 and got this. Don't miss the s8 besides the assurance of the headphone jack and water resistance. Prefer the stock feel and look though.

Dude the headphones that came with the s8 sounds miles better through the use of the usb-c dongle, than they ever did on the s8. I was apposed to the removal of the headphone jack until I used a phone that has a dongle. That dongle has it's own firmware that can be adjusted and tweaked. A 3.5 headphone jack is literally just that. Seeing as how LG is one of the last to put the DAC in the phone a 3.5 jack is going to be phased out. Now they just put the DAC in the headphone cables. On the U11, it came with noise canceling headphones that were pretty damn good.

Not to get too technical here but the S8 still uses a DAC but uses the Qualcomm SoC DAC rather than a discreet chipset (ie: LG V-series) or one inside the adapter (PH-1, Pixel 2, etc.). Speakers are analog devices so a DAC is required to convert digital sound and audio to analog speakers or headphones. Essential uses the Qualcomm SoC DAC for the internal speaker.

Putting a discreet DAC inside the adapter meets USB-C specs better than what Moto did by making their adapter pass-through from the Qualcomm SoC. Moto's adapter is dead in any other USB port where Essential's adapter (+ HTC and Google) actually works with audio in any USB-C port so long as a driver exists. It's less confusing for consumers this way.

Nothing wrong with getting technical, how else does one learn. I appreciate the information. From my experience, having used the Samsung head phones with the s8+, HTC U11, LG G6 and now the PH-1. The best was the U11 followed by the PH-1 then the s8+ and LG G6 last.

For myself the quality of sound coming from the same set of head phones is better using a usb-c dongle.

how's it working with Verizon?

Just wanted to see if anyone is using this phone on Verizon and if so how it's working with the network?

Re: how's it working with Verizon?

I asked the same question about a week ago. Here is what I got.
