I am currently on my parents account as an add a line with just a regular phone. I just got a real job so I'm wanting to get off their plan and start one of my own with a smart phone, my girlfriend is in the same situation so we were wanting to start a family plan. Soooo currently we pay our parents 20 bucks each (10 for the line and 10 for text) totaling about $40 a month. So if we start a new family plan the monthly bill is going to be $160 instead of just $40 that we currently pay. BUT since niether of us are available for an upgrade until June 2011 verizon wants me to pay an ETF for the lines we have now and start a new plan.....or start a new plan and add an extra 2 lines that will not be used to get the contract price on the phones....So all I really wanna know is if there is a way around this or am i just gonna have to wait cause im not gonna pay for an ETF when im increasing the monthly bill by $140, and if I do pay an ETF im just gonna switch to sprint and verizon can go bone themselves. So are there any Verizon employees out that that would know a way around this or am I just gonna have to sit and wait with this POS Samsung Alias?

Like I told you in the PM, it's because you signed a contract for those original lines. Breaking that contract has a cost associated with it (the ETF) There's no way around this.

When I started working for verizon, I had to pay an ETF on my consumer line to get set up with the employee line on my number. (but porting back out when I left was much simpler since my line had no contract)

If you don't want to take one of the options I suggested, then paying the ETF and going elseware would be your other option.

Thanks...I didnt see the PM...I kinda feel like a ****** for posting a whole new thread...I did talk to one customer service guy who said I could go to a store and try to convince a manager to wave the ETF but he said there isnt much of a chance of that happening since the my upgrade date is so far away....but thanks again for your help

now that you've got a "real job" ... welcome to the "real world"... :)

just pay the ETF and move on....

My advice is that both you and your GF should stay on your parents plans. I can't count the numerous horror stories that I've heard involving the drama of having their ex bf/gf on their family plan. GF's come and go, family is forever, stay on your family plan with your FAMILY till you get married.

I believe that if you take your current phone (it needs to be released by your parent) to a VZW store and tell them you want your own line they will do it. The store can call your parent to get the release. Your gf could then do the same, putting her phone on your plan. From what I understand, VZW will do just about anything you want them to do as long as they don't lose any $$.
If you present it to them that you want to leave your old phones and get new ones they will of course want ETFs. Be prepared to put down a deposit if you have no credit history.
My daughter did this and added her fiance to her plan.

ima have to +1 and no offense but being that you said you just got a real job im assuming your young and given that a large majority of young relationships dont last and if the family plan is in your name you will be stuck footing the bill. and since you in an android forum i assume you will be buying an android device and that etf will be like 350 right? not the 175 you would have now.

if you insist on doing this there is no etf to migrate your line from a family plan to a new plan but you wont get the upgrade. i would just go on ebay buy a lightly used device and save yourself some money and migrate your line. but as others said really really think this out plus if you just got a job and get fired next month youll be screwed with a 160 bill and no income. so enjoy being a kid while you can the bills will always be there lol.

no

I just gonna have to sit and wait with this POS Samsung Alias?

yes
I answered in the direct approach way :)

sounds like they are saying that to you ,kinda by not allowing ya to

Thanks for everyones concern about my relationship and how it could end up...I think I am gonna stick with the Alias and just wait it out (not do to the relationship but because im a cheap bastard)....and plus im sure there will be even more awesomer phones out in june (thats what im telling myself to make me feel better) but yea thanks for the advice

They're not trying to be negative. But if you sell phones, you just see a lot of horror stories where people combined accounts too early. All things being equal, it's just cheaper to wait on such things.

There will be amazing phones out by next june. There will most likely be another refresh of the incredible, droidx, and droid2 by then.
