I have only used junk phones in the past with no contracts and generally for most electronic stuff, I think if it makes it past warrenty and then breaks, I will just pay out of pocket compltely for a new one. I ordered the Droid online and opted just for the $1.99/mo warrenty instead of the full out insurance. I have a friend that is bitter on insurance since he has paid faithfully for years and when his phone gave out and he sends it in, they tell him it's not covered because the moisture indicator went off so they claim it's his fault.....although he swears he has never gotten it wet (he was living in a very humid climate at the time). So I see one case where paying all that insurance money got zero returns. Then I also have a friend that has broken 2 phones himself, was completely his fault and they replaced the phone both times. Third time they said he was on his own.

I went with just the $1.99 warrenty for manfacturer defects, cause sounds like the droid has em and I am not sure if the regular warrenty time would show me all of them and $49 for two years is nothing really, but $200+ makes me think....why not just buy the new latest and greatest unlocked $500 phone and get it under the contract I already have (assuming I can do that).

What's your take on insurance for the Droid?

i get the insurance... the good thing about the Asurion.. you can say its 'lost' and pay the deductible and get a different phone.. covers for water too i believe..

they also process claims super fast.

ive got 3 kids and they lose thier phones a couple times a year (and yes they pay the deductibes!)

I asked and the rep told me you can cancel it....so I figure it'd be worth it for a while.......and then drop it when you get closer to to re-upping......

I was told Verizon ins does NOT pay for water damage...mainly for lost or stolen devices, though if it was water damaged, i guess you could say it was lost or stolen...

eta: oh, and i do have the insurance thru verizon, but i'm thinking of changing it to the Best Buy Mobile insurance that they offered me...$6.99 (a buck cheaper than vzw), no deductible, unlimited claims (asurion only allows 2), DOES NOT COVER LOST OR STOLEN, but it does cover any accidental damage (run over with car, water damage, etc), also if they can't fix it they'll give you a brand new phone off the shelf (not a refurb like Vzw), and if they can fix it they'll give you a loaner phone.

so far, i haven't lost any phones...but i've had water damage and such, and with 3 little ones running around the house who knows what can happen... either way i get the ins, i'm just not sure if i should cancel my vzw and change to bb

+1 for insurance. I've used it twice in the past couple years. No questions asked, just mailed me a replacement next day. Worth the expense since still probably cheaper than trying to replace even on craigslist.

Insurance is a must I've read to many threads with someone crying they spilled something on their phone or had it stolen. I have only used it twice in 5 years but its better then paying full retail.

Question for everyone on BB insurance and Verizon insurance

BB insurance: looking at my recipet says $9.99 a month says New Corp MB PSP Plan for 23 months only (for the purchase of the Geek Squad Black Tie Protection Plan, Coverage Expires 2 yrs from the original product purchase date.)

Verizon Insurance: just called verizon and guy said it has a $89.99 deducitable.

My question is did i get the wrong insurance through Best Buy? everyone says its only 6.99 im paying 9.99. Also how good is the BB one? Should i stay with the bb one or switch to the verizon one? Also the 9.99 gets charged to my CC every month.

get it. Its worth it. I broke my storm not to long ago and they shipped me a new one for a cheap deductible. Without it I would of had to pay full price for the phone.

What's the consensus on this? The Verizon Rep sold me on it. I agree mostly because the unit is pricey. So is it worth it? Or is it a waste of money in the long run?

$7.99 x 24 months = $191.76 + 1 approved claim ($89) = $280.76

Is this something worth having say the first 3 or 6 months and then dropping it? I keep thinking "sucker bet"... you know, the Black Jack insurance. Heh!

I'd like to hear peoples thoughts on this.

My Son Got his first BB Storm and within 3 hours dropped it out of the car and cracked the screen. The next day because of the insurance he got a brand new one. It Cost him 50 bucks but better than a replacement at full price.

Thanks for the scoop. So, Is it possible to change Insurance? The Best Buy option sounds better.

Thread moved to Carrier forums.

The problems I have with the Asurion insurance: They send out imperfect refurbs, it's $7.99 for the full protection, and there's a $80 (?) deductible per incident.

Instead of doing this, you might check on your credit card coverage. With my AMEX, they will double the manufactures warranty, and they provide 90 days loss/damage protection. I've used this once, and they reimbursed me the full price I paid for a camera that had a broken LCD.

90 days loss/damage starting when? Purchase day? What about damage after that? I used AMEX, that makes it 2 year warranty. Just in time for an upgrade.

Edit - Ok, I found out that if I want the BB insurance policy that I would have to return the phone to Verizon (I presume pay the re-stocking fee) and get it through BB.
