Verizon G2 insurance question

So I gave my sister in law my G2 on Verizon when I upgraded to the G3 back in August. Of course, not only did she only pay me $20, she destroyed it this last weekend. I don't have the full story, but it involves someone running over it with a car (and of course it's not her fault).

Before I even heard about it, she goes to Verizon and they tell her it's $100 through insurance for the deductible, but instead she gets a Droid Maxx for $40 I guess. (She is on her parents account and could just charge it, I doubt it was only $40 as they just left for Arizona and won't get the bill for a few weeks)

My question is, can I send it off for insurance, then when I get it, sell it? I would imagine I can get $250 for a brand new (well refurbished) G2.

Has anyone done this? I am just not sure if the insurance attaches it to her line or if anyone can activate it.

Thanks in advance!!

When you gave the phone to your sister, did it remain on your bill? Were you still paying the insurance for it, or did you transfer everything to your sister's bill? If everything transferred, then I don't think you could make the claim--she would have to. If you were paying her bill (along with the monthly insurance premium), then you might be able to make the claim, although you should read the fine print--it might not cover damage while in the possession of someone else. Of course, it might be difficult for the insurance company to know that it wasn't in your possession, but if they catch you in a lie, they might accuse you of fraud.

The phone went to her name, her parents plan and she paid insurance. I would have her send it off. I'm not trying to scam anything, it's legit under insurance and a repair that is allowed under her insurance, she took it in to the Verizon store. She just opted for a $40 phone now than $100 phone in a few days.

Oh, I see. (You had said, "Can I send it off for insurance ...") If she sends it off to insurance (and someone pays the $100 deductible), then she would have to send the replacement phone to you, and would probably also have to inform her carrier that she intends to give or sell the phone to someone else, so that it's taken off her account. Otherwise, the buyer might have problems activating it on his or her line. I'm not sure how easy that is is on Verizon. I've seen a few posts here about people buying a used phone on eBay and trying to activate it on Sprint, only to find that they can't because the former user never deactivated it from their account, and then they can't reach that former user (or the former user swears that he already deactivated it).

Hi 2001400ex,

The insurance covers the line rather than the phone. You are only able to file a claim for a phone that is activity being used on your account at the time that the incident occurred. We welcome you to review the terms and conditions of the policy on www.phoneclaim.com/verizon.
