Verizon grandfathered UDP (Hotspot) on Nexus 6P?

Hi folks,

Just throwing this out there in case anyone else has tried this to get feedback if it might work...

I have a grandfathered Verizon Unlimited Hotspot data plan running on a mobile hotspot, alongside a separate T-Mobile voice/data plan on a Nexus 6. At one point I'd tried putting the Verizon SIM into the Nexus 6 in the hopes that it might provide data on the phone and as a hotspot, and, since it didn't have voice, using Google Voice for calling. Had it worked, I could port my T-Mobile cell number over to Google Voice and be down completely to a single device to do, well, everything. Unfortunately, it didn't work.

Has anyone tried a data-only plan SIM in the Nexus 6P, and if so, did it work for phone data, hotspot, and Google Voice? Hoping there may have been some changes in the updated model that would have allowed for this functionality.

Thanks in advance!

I have not, but I will tell you that using Google Voice/Hangouts for calling over LTE can be very spotty. 50/50 I hang up and make a traditional call instead.

I generally place calls from my carrier number, but sometimes receive calls on my GV number on LTE and haven't noticed any real issues like that. Could be an issue with how well different carriers' LTE sports GV? (I'm on T-Mobile service on my phone)
