Verizon just TOOK AWAY my unlimited data (edit :UDP restored)

I've been buying used phones for years in an effort to maintain my unlimited data (plus $20 discount per line) on my two lines and Nationwide talk and text 1400 plan.

I recently bought my wife a used iPhone and needed a new SIM card. Went to my local corporate store Friday where I was in and out in 15 minutes, new SIM, no charge. Explicitly asked if my plans were going to be affected and was told NO.

Got an email today thanking me for making the change to my wife's line - now 2 gb at $30 per month.

LIVID , I called Verizon - they apologized and said they would submit some paperwork to get it corrected. I'm quite upset because I've not read many success stories where folks were successful in getting changes like this reversed. I won't know if the changes were effective for up to 7 days.

I need to get back to my 29.99 unlimited email and web and my 20 talk and text plus data discount (9.99 unlimited data).

Someone talk me off the ledge - will I get it corrected? Has Verizon gotten this shady that they're now tricking folks to take their unlimited data away? I could see if I were processing a subsidized upgrade but I bought my own phone and needed nothing but a SIM card...

Thanks.

Re: Verizon just TOOK AWAY my unlimited data

I also own the 29.99 unlimited data with $20 discount promo. And i would be damn if they pull some crap like that... Is the system rigged to throw you off unlimited when activating a new sim card???

Re: Verizon just TOOK AWAY my unlimited data

I did the same thing - got a new SIM card for a used phone - 6 months ago and had no impact to my unlimited data.

I would go to a new provider. Did you call the complaint line 1800:811:5552. Also ask for some money back for the time.

You'll be able to get it back. I also have those discounts. The rep tried to act like there was nothing they could do at first, but I was adamant about getting it back and he finally submitted the paperwork. My discount was back in one day, didn't take 7 like he said it could. I think some people just don't know what they're doing and accidentally get rid of it.

It sounds like the clerk in the store changed your plan. You always have to be careful when going to the store. Do you have the receipt from when you got the sim?

Because you did not get a subsidized phone I think you should be able to get the plan back.

Keep us updated.

I signed nothing when I was in the store, though I did get a receipt (electronically). The receipt has no line items and is for $0. I'm going to call the store today as well; wondering if just canceling whatever transaction they made will be quicker and more successful than waiting to see if they can "add back" my former plan items.

Thanks for sharing your experience, this leaves me hopeful. At the moment, I've been duped in to paying $20 more a month for considerably less service, not to mention the usage beyond 2 gb.

Re: Verizon just TOOK AWAY my unlimited data

Call verizon AOL Dept and ask to speak with the WINBACK team. If it hasnt been 30 days they will re-enlist the unlimited plan instantly.

Re: Verizon just TOOK AWAY my unlimited data

How did you guys have the $20 discount on unlimited data? Was this a promo from a long time ago?

I am sure you will get everything back including the promo you had. No worries! never go to the store as they are automatically set to change to 2gb no matter what you do. People at the stores dont know what they are doing.

The discount was a promo in 2010. Wish I added more lines then lol. http://slickdeals.net/share/android_app/t/2352743

Re: Verizon just TOOK AWAY my unlimited data

Yes, it was a fantastic promotion that is set to expire in some year well in to the future (2038?). Those of us who have it treat it as gold, even more than unlimited data by itself.

Re: Verizon just TOOK AWAY my unlimited data

Not really surprising, there are some not so bright people there. I have bought a sim before on ebay to avoid the hassle of going to the store, and potential mess up, especially since I use loopholes to use the upgrade on the UDP lines.

As others have said, Verizon will give it back to you.

Re: Verizon just TOOK AWAY my unlimited data

You don't have to sign anything. When I worked at vzw the program we used wouldn't allow us to change back or offer a plan that didn't exist anymore. Not saying a higher up couldn't do it but from what I saw it wasn't possible

Got a sim 6 months ago with no change to my account, something was different in the way it was processed this time around. Should a sim replacement have required offering or changing a plan?

Re: Verizon just TOOK AWAY my unlimited data

I believe you will get it back from what I have read. It just does actually take a little bit of time .. they send it up and they will change the plan back. I believe Verizon does this so reps can't just apply unlimited data back to customer accounts.

Agreed. I have four lines with that promo on them. I've been able to keep it as I upgrade devices and change to the 6GB MAXX plan that they offer to folks giving up the UDP. Apparently the discount is tied to the line, and not the data plan itself. You just have to keep a data plan worth $29.99 or more to maintain the discount.

Re: Verizon just TOOK AWAY my unlimited data

Bought a new Gnote4 @ Best Buy at full price to keep UDP on the 4th got home called Verizon to activate new Sim and make sure my Asurion insurance would transfer.. everything went good but found out today that my insurance went up $2 was paying $5 and change now paying $7 and change. They said price went up at the start of 2015.

Re: Verizon just TOOK AWAY my unlimited data

Well, I'm two days in since my call to customer service. I've called the store that made the change and I've called customer service daily to check on the status of the IPR (inactive price request). It's still pending. Everyone I have talked to agrees it should not have happened and that I should get my unlimited data back. I will continue my daily calls until it is so.

Good news is that I think my $20 discount is still on my plan. I can't see it online through myverizon, but I believe one of the reps confirmed it was still there. So some confirmation of what was said above - keep a 29.99 data plan active to maintain the 20 discount (if you were lucky enough to get one).

Still hoping for a good outcome.
