Verizon Network Extender

Hi there,

Got my Maxx on launch day and absolutely LOVE IT. The only issue I'm having is that I have a Verizon Network extender in my house because the signal where I live is somewhat weak.

My last phone (Samsung S4) picked up the extender very very well and my wife's phone does too. However, my MAXX does not. It's almost always very weak with only one or occasionally two bars.... even when I hold the phone right next to the extender.

Does anyone else have a network extender so you can tell me if this is an issue with the MAXX in general, or just with my specific phone? Also, the little picture of a phone, that appears above the number of bars you are receiving, flashes.. my last phone it was solid and I'm not sure if this is because the signal is weak or if it's just the way this UI works.

Thanks for any help anyone can offer.

HI!

I have had the exact same issue with my Network Extender and also the 10 or so I have connected to at my clients houses. I loaded a app called LTE OnOff-HTC Thunderbolt and I force it on 3G when I am home and I have had no issues. I did talk to Verizon and they said they are 'looking into' . hope this helps!

I have the network extender and the Maxx. Works fine for me. The house does flash. Could be your phone I suppose but mine works fine.

I have two extenders - one at home (the new 3G kind), and one at my summer house (the old 1xRTT kind.)

It works just as well as any phone I have had as long as I am within 25 feet or so.

Ignore the bars (they may be showing bars for a data connection to Verizon towers.) Go to settings->about phone-?Status->Network type and strength. Look at the 1x strength - that's your voice signal. If it is in the -90s, -80s, -70s, or -60s, you have a great signal for voice. (You should also see a flashing house icon above the signal bars.)

Right now my phone is showing 1 bar. Signal strength is -86 dBm for 1x, -122 dBm for 4G. The signal strength meter is not showing me the extender 1x signal - it's showing the LTE signal of -122 dBm (which is a terrible signal, and, of course, the reason why I have the extender.)

That is VERY helpful information, thank you doogald. I just checked, and although I only have one bar, my 1x signal strength is around the 70s or 80s much of the time, so I guess it must be fine but I just didn't realize it until now. THanks again for your help everyone.
