Verizon Nexus Manual

Glad I managed to D/L a copy before it disappeared. But, like most manufacturer booklets, it isn't really all that useful.

Page 73 has information about tethering, with no disclaimer that it costs extra money. Now I don't want to get my hopes up but I would expect them to say you will be charged extra if you don't have it in your plan. On the data usage page for example, they give you a warning that the phone may report different data usage which might cause you to have to pay overage fees. Maybe there is a chance Verizon won't block the default tethering.

You're right so far haven't read anything I didn't all ready know and in fact it says Less than I all ready know.

Well, the info Phil posted the other day specifically mentions that there isn't a Mobile Hotspot app for the Nexus, so its entirely possible. They may go the T-mobile route and let users tether without an additional fee, but only if the user does so reasonably. (e.g. not excessive usage)

That's kind of what I'm hoping for. I tether occasionally because my apartment has terrible WiFi, but it would be nice to know Verizon won't hit you with fees for tethering small amounts of data. Not that they would even look into your account now unless you're using well over 2GB a month.

This would be incredible. But if there's anything I've learned while waiting for this phone, it's don't get your hopes up. Only a few more days til we know.

I'm a bit confused.... the info in the training manual posted the other day said it was a hotspot for up to 10 devices.

It also mentioned that you can USB tether to Windows, Mac OS X, and newer Linux distros.
I totally tried on my 10.7.2 OS X, and OS didn't even recognize the phone as a modem....

I do have that android software installed for file transfer btw.

The manual is 'officially' on Verizon's website....

(I also bumped this cause I wanted to see if anyone knew the answer to the hotspot question i asked earlier) :)

To answer your other question. They may have their own app in development or ready to go that will enable tethering if it is not built in. No clue really until we get the phone.

Sent from somewhere using something to send it.

Read the manual. It's available on the device but only through the stock menu-driven (eg NOT a separate app) process. The big question is whether they'll charge for use, because they wouldn't be able to do it using the stock menu.

Actually Sprint charges for tethering through the stock built in menus on the NS4G. If tethering is not enabled on your account they have some way to block unauthorized tethering.

Verizon will probably do the same thing.

Just guessing from past experience.

Tethering from the built-in app will be no different from any other method. If you use it too much to be noticed, VZW (or any other carrier that charges for it) will lock it down on your account.

There are widgets that can activate the built-in hotspot feature to give quick access to that function, but most are built for the Nexus S, so they may have little quirks (such as the widget not changing colors).

I'm using TetherShortCutWidget as it was the first one (I stopped looking) that I found that works with my VZW GNex. I'll look for others when I have more time.
