Verizon Offered by 6GB for $30

I just had a Verizon representative call to do a "complimentary evaluation of my plan" to see if I was on the best plan for my needs (joke). The rep went over my minutes/texts etc, and noticed that I use an average of 9GB of data per month, I currently have unlimited. She said that between her and I, Verizon is offering "loyal customers such as [myself]" the opportunity to upgrade my phone, and switch to a data plan that would give me 6GB per month for $30 (Same as what I pay for unlimited now). She also said if I switched, they would offer me an exclusive discount of $100 off the $200 upgrade price for a Galaxy S4.

Needless to say I didn't bother, still makes more sense for me to upgrade at full price, or wait for the Nexus 5 and switch. I couldn't help but think this is a ploy to get people out of unlimited data. Has anyone else with unlimited gotten a call like this from Verizon?

It isn't between you and her... Any unlimited data customer gets that offer.. So that's nothing special.

They simply will do anything to get you off unlimited data. They want everyone to use less and pay more... Simple as that.

The only plan I would go for is something like 10GB for $30. But who says they aren't going to give these new plans the same treatment of "you cannot upgrade unless you move to a current plan."

It's always a numbers game in these situations and they can occasionally be a good deal depending on your usage. Sounds to me like this one isn't for you.

It really does make sense to do an alternate upgrade and get whatever phone you want that is > $600 if you got unlimited. The price of and extra line and the price of whatever subsidy is cheaper than buying a phone outright. It was work but in the end I got a Note 3.

My Note 3, by itself is up to 8GB and growing. I will be going unlimited until Verizon truly takes it away. Best phone, best network...I love life right now. :D

exactly, this is not worth it for some. But personally I use about 6 GB of data (was unlimited) on an HTC Rezound with broken wifi. So i upgraded knowing that even with heavy usage my new phone will have working wifi and I will be well under the cap. So for me it was worth it to buy the subsidized phone and get the cap that doesn't effect me much. and ill deal with them 2 years down the road when they wanna take this away from me and put me on a more costly plan.

Any idea how long this transfer lasts? One of the guys at my job just upgraded to a S4, lost his unlimited, but at the Best Buy they only offered him the 2 gig plan. This was Black Friday weekend, and I keep ragging on him to call Verizon and see if he can still get the 6 gig plan, think he's screwed?

Its well past 14 days so yea he's screwed.

He can enquire about the 60 dollars loyalty plan though.

Unlimited mins.. Unlimited txts and 2 gb data for 60 dollars.

When Verizon, without asking, switched me to the 6GB plan for $30, they added another 2GB for the hotspot. I refused and got my unlimited data back. But for how long, I'll find out on a few days.

I would try returning the phone since there are extended holiday returns. That should restore the upgrade, but if you are past 14 days, idk if they will restore the unlimited. Worth a try.

That's actually a good deal. Nothing is like unlimited but I am sure if they offered that instead of just the 6 gb more people would switch.

I know you guys on unlimited hate these so-called "deals". If you do take them and get back on contract the extra data they give you for that $30 a month goes away once you upgrade.

That is the first I have heard of that. The whole incentive to switch was for you to keep your upgrades.

I'm sure that'll be the case in two years' time. I've heard of people who took advantage of the double data promotion (4GB for the price of 2GB) not being able to upgrade and keep the 4GB for the price of 2GB plan.

I have never heard of that happening when you buy from Verizon directly and know people IRL who have upgraded on double the data lines and kept their double the data promo.
