Verizon Pixel 4 trade in deal Question

Mine may was reduced but two out of three people were on the grandfathered plan. Now we all have unlimited with that data cap where they can throttle your speed.

They both told me that no new plan would be cheaper or come close to what I've currently had for the past 12 or so years and I'd be much better off sticking to it. I don't know if it varies in certain areas or depends on who you ask or who is running the store or whatever the case

That's going by how Verizon has been in the past. Generally, they won't let you change anything when you get monthly bill credits. No changing the plan, the phone, you can't even pay it off early. IMHO it's actually more restrictive than the old 2 year contracts.

You can pay off the phone early, but you lose all of the future bill credits. For example if you phone cost is $30 each month and you get $15 in bill credit and you pay $15 a month, if you want to pay off six months early you will owe $180 not $90. I lost one bill credit for a month one time to pay off a phone early.

I know, I've said that in previous posts. I didn't mention it in this post to keep it short. You can go ahead and do all the things I said you couldn't (pay off early, change plans, upgrade your phone), no one's stopping you from doing that. When I said you can't do that, I meant that you couldn't do that AND keep your bill credits.

Which is why I think these new plans that give you bill credits instead of a one time upfront discount is worse than the old 2 year contracts. There at least you could pay off the phone early or upgrade without getting dinged. The only thing you couldn't do was leave without paying an ETF, which makes sense. Here it's like they're punishing you for signing up with them.

But I suppose they're just trying to get whole from people who abused the system before (people signing up for BOGO deals then cancelling the contracts, paying the ETF, and selling the phones for a profit). That used to happen a lot going by older forum comments. Now the ones who followed the rules get punished for it.
