I just got a phone on the new every 2 program. It is still within the 30 days. If I return and tell them I want to go back to my original phone, does that mean I'm not obligated to the new 2 year contract since I'm sticking to my old phone? Maybe want to switch carriers.

If you return the phone within the 30 days, you will not be obligated to the new contract.

They may try to charge you a restocking fee for the returned device, from things I've heard in more recent months. But you are certainly not bound to the contract--you committed to that only in exchange for the significant reduction in device price. Btw, I think there can be flexibility in those restocking fees, so if you have a buddy working for vzw, might be smart to go to their store....
