Last week, I replaced my S6 on Verizon with a new S8. I saw today that the Verizon updates to Nougat are coming through, so I tried to update. I got message that there was a problem with the servers.

Will I be able to update the phone through the Verizon site, or will I have to update some other way?

I'll keep trying then! I wondered if Verizon "disowns" the phones when you deactivate them. Thanks.

I have a Verizon S6 and for a time switched to T-Mobile and had the same error message on updates. I think some component of the OTA update requires you to actually be on Verizon's network to make it work. That said, once the update is available for your particular device you can update it by connecting the phone to your computer and use Verizon's update software (available if you choose "Use USB for Software Installation" when you connect via USB) or Samsung's SmartSwitch tool to update the OS.

FWIW My Verizon S6 does not yet have the Nougat update available (OTA or otherwise) so you may need to wait a bit.

Great info, thanks! Do I need to download any software to my computer before I hook the phone up?
