Verizon update

A buddy of mine running an unlocked Note 9 on Verizon updated earlier this week (I assuming it is the latest update on the Verizon side - assuming the one with the June security patch.) After the update he has had trouble with call clarity (folks can't hear him unless he moves to another part of the home) whereas this wasn't an issue previously. Has anyone else experienced anything of the sort? I had him clear his cache but no difference. Back in the day Verizon had a * number to dial that (was it *86?) would force a tower/phone sync and/or download some communication software but in this day and age I don't think that exists. At this point he broke out his S8+ deeming the Note 9 unusable at this point.
 
I got the update this morning. Yeah, August security update. I haven't made a call yet, so I don't know if my Note 9 is having this issue too.

Have you noticed any difference, I haven't installed (nor checked) if it came my way just yet.
