Verizon X on T-Mo... Q about updates

So last week I ditched Verizon to go back to the all you can eat helping of data at T-Mobile. Originally my plan was to get the Nexus 6 and live happily ever after for the next 2 years. Well after a week of fumbling around with the massive N6 I decided to go back to my Verizon Moto X which surprising works just fine on T-Mobile, LTE and everything. Now my only concern is if I will still get updates. Like do the updates need to come from Verizon or are they from Motorola.

This is a good question! I think Moto only directly updates the Pure edition, so you probably will need to update unofficially.

I did this with my 2013 VZW moto x using T-mobile service. Things worked reasonably well, though there were times when I just didn't get signal and I knew I should... I think it was missing one band or just wasn't optimized. I got the update from 4.4.2 to 4.4.4 once Verizon pushed it out. I didn't have to side load or anything, I just manually checked for updates and it was there. I might've even got notification of it... it was a while ago, so I can't remember exactly. I just know that it came to me and I didn't have to go to it.

Hopefully this is the same story you'll encounter too.

It is my understanding that if a device is sold by a carrier any given update has to be approved by the selling carrier regardless of what network the device is currently active on.
