I am wondering if Mobile Hot Spot helps drain my battery quite fast. Using it in my office for my IPAD2.

As long as you're connected and using it, it will use up your battery faster than if you weren't using it.

If you're using it to tether your iPad, I'd keep the RAZR plugged in.

If you want to use a hotspot you should look into using foxfi from the market.

I don't mind the $30 as much as I do the battery drain. I have unlimited data on all three of my devices (wife & son) so I don't worry about that. Been with Verizon for many, many moons.

Question is will Foxfi drain the battery as fast as Verizon Hot Spot?

I don't see why it would be any different.

I believe it does. I also believe you're in the minority (in this forum anyway) who doesn't mind paying the $30 monthly fee. :)

I don't mins paying for the hotspot feature either. I wish it was free but in no way do I feel its not worth it as long as its unlimited.

Verizon isnt making a stink about people using FoxFi because unlimited data plans will soon be history for all. Those who were grandfathered in, will likely lose the unlimited data sometime this fall when iphone 5 rolls out. Enjoy it while it lasts.

I'm under a contract until late 2013. I won't use a smartphone without unlimited data because it will ruin the whole point of having one. I doubt what you're saying is true though.

My friend who had AllTel has just upgraded to the MAXX with no plan changes.

Try rebooting your phone after installing FoxFi, then see if it works.

If it doesn't work for you, you may need the pdanet file in that thread. Find it on your phone, download it and install it (you'll need to go to Settings --> Applications and check Unknown Sources). Then reboot your phone. It should work after that.
