Very Important question TO ALL GALAXY NOTE 5 OWNERS Current and Past

I'm deciding if I should wait for the Note 6 or splurge for the Note 5 (Coming for a Note 3) the problem that I'm mainly concerned of is battery life, everyone's been making such a big deal out of it, the Note 3 has a 3200 mah unit, the 4 has only 20 more. When I used my Note 3 at the beginning, the battery life was amazing but now it's gotten so bad. We all know how bad battery life is as a phone ages, it's been about a week since the Note 5 has been out so to all Note 5 owners, how has battery life been for you? What have you been doing with it? For me it's just the usual usual YouTube watching, web browsing, texting, social media and the occasional game. Yes I know I'm making a big deal out of 200 less mah but that could mean less battery life in the next 2 or 3 years, especially that there's no removable battery now. The other approach I could do is buy a pocket friendly high capacity portable battery. So I'll stop rambling and ask once more, hows battery life on your note 5 now? Not when you first bought it or yesterday...wait hold on...ok well the last time you reached 1-10% battery, tell me what you did on it and how much screen on time you have and what brightness you had. If possible add in a screenshot. Thanks!

Funny, I just posted about this very topic. Gonna keep it very short. Have had a Note Edge since day 1 last year (Sprint). Never had an issue with the phone. With moderate use every single work day and heavy use on days off, I maintained about a 35% battery life in 24 hours before I put it on a charger. Meaning, I would charge the phone 30 mins before I left for work and wouldn't charge it again for 24 hours.

Now? I'm getting off work with about 20% battery life left and have to be careful not to use the phone in the 30 min drive home or risk a dead battery. It's obvious after 9 months use, the battery is not maintaining it's original charge. This started being noticeable around the 6-7 month time frame. Understandable as that's what batteries do over time. This fall, I will get a brand new battery and will be right back to where I was last year. See my point?

I've noticed that majority time my battery starts going down is after a update. If the phone released with kit kat, that phone was made to run on kit kat, changing to a new software seems to always mess with battery life. That's my theory.

The efficiency of the SoC overcomes the smaller battery and then some. Configured exactly the same way my Note 5 gets about 30% better battery life than my Note 4. I'm an extreme use case with 3 push Activesync accounts and 9 sync accounts. The Note 5 also charges faster and has a high speed wireless charging option. The missing expandable storage is a real issue, the fixed battery and battery life is not. At least not in my case.

It is impossible to compare phones simply on battery size alone. The devices, and software are sooo much better and more efficient now than they were even a few months ago. Of course battery life is also a very personal thing. Often times a new device suffers from battery issues because we use them differently than our old one. For example, someone coming from a non-note to a note might find that they are turning on the dcreen dozens of times more due to the note taking functions.

Also, my experience is that after a major software update, you have to do a full factory reset. Never had any battery issues after that.

1 other thing, Samsung warranties the battery to 80% during the first year, if it falls below 80% of design capacity, then they will replace the battery for free.

There is already a good thread on battery life.... "Note 5 Battery life thread" which will answer most of your questions Helpful info throughout. I went from a Note 3 to a 5. Battery life much better once doing the things suggested or already known.

OP, you are willing to wait another year for maybe a bigger battery on the Note 6? That's patience there. If you need a phone, get one. The G4 has a removable battery, but the battery life stinks on it. I just got my phone yesterday, so I can't give you much of anything to go on. But, if you want the Note 5, just get it. My battery life seems as good if not slightly better than the Note 4.

I picked up my phone from the charger this morning at 6am and have purposely kept it away from the charger all day long...

With light/moderate use, my battery is now at 61% (it is 4pm now...10 hours later). Admittedly, I have not used the phone much today...

I am optimistic that with the Adaptive Charging, that the Note 5 will largely meet my needs. Supposedly the adaptive charging goes from 0%-50% in 30 minutes, and to 100% in a little over an hour... That means that if you stop by a coffee shop or a restaurant for lunch, and they have an AC outlet available, you can be at 50%-100% while you eat or have you cup of coffee... Not bad, right?

My main issue is that I like to use my phone as my main (and only) camera...when I am on a personal or business trip, I sometimes take 100 photos in the span of 30-60 minutes. With that use case, the battery burns down pretty quickly, and usually I am not near an AC outlet in those situations... I'll need to get a portable battery that supports adaptive charging. Samsung has one, but it's pretty pricey...their website shows it as going for $69.99 when it releases...

Jump on the Note 5, you will NOT regret it...the battery life is way better than my Note 4, but to be fair My Note 4 battery life was killed by the lollipop update...the 220mah difference between the two is not even an issue...plus with fast charging and portable battery packs...you'll never have to worry...they even have adaptive fast chargers for the car...
