can't get my captivate to install packages. says e:nmount. verification failed. signature something. please help. i've been at it for at least 4 months off and on

You're on Froyo, so the recovery checks for a properly signed file. You can use SuperOneClick to root, and then remove the signature check from recovery. Checkout the rooting sticky for more info.
