My friend has Pixel 2XL that does video calling. She does video calls directly from the phone contact screen with someone who has a Samsung 6. They too can initiate video calls back. How they do it is they choose the contact thru their phone screen and a popup comes asking if they want to do a video or regular call.

We did a Google search and there were instructions to enable video calling on a Samsung S10. I followed those instructions and there is no option on my phone for video calling. It doesn't exist. But these instructions were from 2019 and clearly showed it as an option. So does anyone know if we have that capability and if so, how do I enable it?

It's usually a carrier dependent feature and often missing on unlocked phones.

What carrier are you on and did you get the phone from your carrier?

Ask your friend with the Pixel 2 XL if it's a Google Duo video call that's being made. On Pixels, Duo is integrated into the Phone and Contacts app.

Also, apps like WhatsApp can be used directly from the Contacts app for messages, calls or video calls.

I bought an unlocked phone from Best Buy and my carrier is Verizon. I am not sure how to check to see if Duo is integrated into my friend's Pixel but that is an interesting concept.

An unlocked "carrier-agnostic" phone probably can't take advantage of Verizon's own video calling system. Do you have Duo installed? If not, try installing it and see if that gives you a video call option in your Contacts.

Hey, B Diddy, yes Duo works for that but I was trying to see if I could enable without installing something. Probably the "carrier-agnostic" is the issue.

I think you're right. For non-Duo video calling to be active out of the box, the phone typically would have to be from a carrier and on that carrier's network.

With the new OneUI 2.1 update to the S10 series the default video app in the phone app is now duo like on the Pixel. It even logs the duo call in the phone logs. You should get the update soon.
