So, while browsing the manuals for AT&T, Sprint and T-Mo, I noticed that Samsung has removed the video chat function from the dialer and contacts.

Obviously, there are other services to use other than what Samsung had built in.

I'm curious to know, has Verizon ever left in manufacturer built in video chat on any devices yet? I don't believe it is natively supported in Android, but the manufacturers sometimes add it themselves. I know it was previewed for the LG Spectrum last year, but not in the retail release. Also it was removed from the Charge. (Vs. similar international models)

Just interested and is there a way to integrate Skype or Tango or whatever into your contacts list?

I used to work for VZW and I remember when we had our Thunderbolt pre-launch training, that there was the video chat icon next to people who could video chat in your contacts list. I know that was yanked pre-launch as well.

Tango does integrate into your contact list, so you'll see users who have the app highlighted with the tango icon next to their names.

so.....is there currently a way to video chat, Gchat or other mainstream method? I tried skype and it said this device isnt supported for voice but that video is enabled.

anybody else having any success on verizon gs3?

I tried a google+ hangout yesterday but my GS3 was on WIFI at the time. That worked fine...slight delay but the audio and video c and across both phone and test PC as needed.

99% sure i used google talk to video call my wife the other day. i cant remember if i was on wifi or not though.

just checked my phone now though and i have the video icon to video call her right now over lte so it should work. dont think its very integrated with the dialer though. i still cant figure out why google refuses to integrate google talk into their contacts

tango skype and all the others seem to suck the battery I personally have the best luck with "Talk" its already on your phone and you can talk to people on a home pc without them needing any software just a webcam and and a gmail account its over on the left side of gmail.com under chat.

Google talk works for me. I installed VTOK on my wife's iPhone and my daughter's iPad. I can video chat with them with no problems.

In my contacts it shows both as VTOK clients with a little picture of a video camera. I click on it and it sends out the video chat invite. I was curious if it actually was working because my daughter never answered. She called me back later (she was out) and we video chatted with no real issues. I am on 3G where I am traveling tonight so it was a little choppy, but otherwise as good or better than FaceTime or Yahoo messenger.

Skype has been sucking badly for the last year or so, on any platform. So don't use the Skype experience to gauge VZW's ability to video chat.

I've switched to Tango and it works well on 4G or Wifi, it works OK on 3G. Starting a Tango call from the contacts list is no problem.

Thanks for all the input and I'll have to look into Tango and vtok. For now Ill try and kick up Gtalk and see what I can do as this is my first phone with a front facing camera ! ( coming from DX!)
Psyched fro this option and have friends on both iphone and android
