Just got my zoom and I like it but one major thing I noticed is there is not a native video player for this device??? I have loaded several avi files on this and none of them will play. I have looked at the market place and tried to find video player apps and have not found any that have actually worked. So what are you guys using? PS I tried searching and found no answer.

I tried the trial version but it would just crash after I tried loading a video. So I was scared to buy it in fear that the purchased version would do the same....

1 - It's Xoom :p

2 - If you're having troubles you'll probably need to convert the files with with Handbrake or DVD Catalyst. DVD Catalyst is like $9.95 (Check Google) and it has a Xoom preset.

Otherwise there were a handful of threads with the same questions that should have more info. Sorry I'm at work and can't include too much more than that.

Rockplayer is awesome. I can download movies right to my Xoom and watch them. Only tested .avi files so far though.

Yea I got rockplayer to finally work so, its good so far other than my mkv files but I guess I can convert them anyway if I want them to play.

Maybe this topic should be in the Sticky section. Or at least a Xoom FAQs page. I've seen the following topics asked and answered multiple times. With the exception of video format specs.

What is a recommended video player app?
If I convert video for xoom, what are the optimal settings? [video type/resolution/bitrate/audio/etc]
What is the pixel per pixel wallpaper resolution?
How do I make my album artwork show?

My MKV files play in the built in Movie player, as long as they are h264. The only problem is it can't handle Dolby or DTS audio. Rockplayer will play the mkv files and process the audio, but it hasn't been updated yet to use the hardware decoding of the video.

I connected my Xoom to my laptop and dragged several video files to the Xoom, but of the AVI, WMV, and MP4 file types, only the MP4 file played natively. The only way I could play it was to drill down to the folder in a file manager app on the Xoom and launch it from there. The funny thing is I can't find a movie player in the installed apps, so I have no idea where the movie player is located... I'd love to have a shortcut for it so I wouldn't have to drill down through file manager. Where is it?

I'll definitely check out Rockplayer...

If go into your gallery it will have the movies listed tapping play will load them and allow them to run. I know that it will handle mp4 and aviation without an issue. As far as a native movie app I have yet to find one where you can just launch it find the movies and play other than in the gallery.

Yes! Sure enough, there is my test movie folder in the Gallery! I never thought to look there, so thanks.

I just started playing a video and then switched to another app, and when I looked at the Recent Apps list, it showed an image of the video that was playing and the app name was ... "Gallery". :)
