Yeah this is a known issue. Hopefully a software update changes it.
This is why flashlight/torch apps don't work

My first post since getting my Incredible yesterday. Loving it so far.

But there are currently no apps that will use the camera's flash as a flashlight?

I think this restriction was put on to conserve battery life. From what I read, the dual LEDs use up alot of power (so you can imagine if it was being on for a long duration for video)

It would definitely be nice if they gave us the option though.

Yeah this is a flaw that should have been avoided. Gonna have to wait it out.

Something not in the phone that you want is not considered a "flaw". They did that because 1 the dual leds use the living day lights out of the battery and the camcorder is no battery angel either. If you had both running a fully charged battery would probably only be usable for like 10 minutes of constant video. lol.

A single flash would have been better imo...who needs dual flash anyway?.a single flash that uses less juice, and that goes on when ever u want would have been way better.

I really don't care why they did it. If it was going to be a battery problem, they needed to find a workaround that allows SOME lighting when recording. The fact is, if you are going to build a phone with a camcorder, you need to provide a light to use it with. lol.

Umm ok, you do realize this isn't primarily a camcorder?? And secondary "sweetened" options are normally not a perfect scenario. If you need night time recording that bad I would suggest go buy a cheap digital camcorder! Remember you bought a $200 all in one device not a $200 camcorder that happens to make phone calls......

I do understand that and I do in fact have a nice digital camcorder. But I don't carry it with me everywhere I go like I do my phone and you can't always predict when a good video moment comes along. And this is not just any phone, it's a smartphone that IMO has been touted to exceed expectations of prior releases, yet other phones have this ability and the Incredible does not.

Yes, I realize it may not be ideal in the arena of battery usage but not much is when it comes to smartphones. I'm not suggesting they should have necessarily used the dual LED's for illumination but it seems to me that a lack of lighting on the newest smartphone would have this feature at some level. That's all I'm saying and that is why I consider it to be a design flaw or perhaps oversight.

Anyway, I am only one person with one opinion so we can simply agree to disagree. It's certainly not a dealbreaker for me, I still use and greatly enjoy the phone. Just mentioned it because the topic came up.

lol ok, I know where you are coming from, I guess everyone should be happy the issues we have to complain about are small ones. I come from a world of actual problems with the phones so the grips were often and meaningful. So I guess having small things to complain about is a good thing!

BTW I agree with you about the light, it just seemed like a trivial complaint to me. Now them making the camera capable of 720p would be more important to me!

Your'e right it is. Maybe if the little things are all we have to pick on this soon after release, we have a pretty darn good unit on our hands. :D

You are correct Sir. I guess maybe the more we point out the more either HTC/Google will work to make it more perfect, or some of the third party guys will root and bake a rom for us that does what we all want!
