I have taken video recently, in Landscape mode, however....when I play it back on the phone and/or Chromecast, it will only play in portrait mode. Anyone know WHY?

Make sure you have auto rotate activated. Can you rotate your phone in other instances? for example can your browser go into landscape?

Happened to me too I think you have to make sure you start the video in landscape. If you start in portrait and then rotate to landscape it will stay in portrait. I could be wrong but thats my theory.

yes, set to auto rotate. For browser, etc. I have taken video STARTING in landscape even...still moves to portrait.

I have had this happen one time in the dozen or so videos I've shot... and I was also puzzled by it. I have not been able to reproduce the issue, with the nearest I can come up with is if I start in portrait and then quickly rotate to landscape -- but as you mentioned, you're experiencing it all the time.

Quick question: when you rotate your phone to landscape, do you see the little video camera icon rotate as well? I'm wondering if, for some reason, there's a delay in the camera switching over to landscape mode.

As a solution, if you're finding that this is an issue you can mostly live with, is to install VLC player on your computer -- it has the ability to rotate videos and remember your "geometry" settings from video to video. VLC for Android may also be able to properly play your videos (using the little "crop" icon... that doesn't actually crop, but instead allows you to "fit" the video to your screen with a variety of options.)

Thanks for the input. If I am playing it to my chromecast, i have to hold the phone a certain way or it goes back to portrait. (some will play in landscape that way...) BUT..the one video will not go to Landscape no matter what I do.

Yup -- I had that one video that did that, and I was never able to figure out how it ended up that way. I tried a few video-rotation apps, but none actually worked. My solution (if you want to call it that) was to post to facebook and then use their tool to rotate it... and then you can watch it in facebook. Corny, but it worked.

If you transfer it to a desktop, you can use VLC to rotate it or maybe even AVC (Any Video Converter), and then load it back to your phone.

I'd love to know if you can figure out what you did differently for that one video, or if someone else can successfully reproduce this issue.

I hate adding nothing other than a "me too", but I am experiencing the exact same problem, starting each video in landscape. I appreciate the tips to fix the video after the fact, but it just doesn't seem like that should be necessary.

Does it do that with every video?

Hi, yes I know I am "L8 2 the PARTY" but I haven't ever been here before, as I always knew how to do this, until I didn't today when rebooting my old CDMA cellphone as it always took way better videos than this newer upgraded 4G phone.
Anyways, I always used the Nokia Classic 6120 ON IT's SIDE as a fixed dashcam for my 4wd van, and never had any "rotated" issues.Today though, all it wants to do, is make PORTRAIT vids, irrespective of which way around..?

Thus - it's why I read these Q's (and not very helpful As) - until I remembered, of you silly old sod
I said to myself.
SETTINGS.
In the cellphone I have there is (somewhere) an option to alter portrait mode or landscape mode, and I had to just reset mine (again) into landscape.

Hope that helps anyone later on..
