I'm having a major issue. A selling point of the pixel was that it was able to upload full resolution photos and videos without your account storage being charged. Last night at my son's Christmas performance I took 10 minutes of video for a total of 4gb or so and that data has been charged against my account. Anyone else with a similar issue? Anyone else having thier pixel videos being charged against thier account storage?

So just to be clear are you talking about the local phone storage or cloud storage?data?

So to be clear the unlimited part is referring to the cost to keep it stored on google photos. It will still take up space on the phone, until you elect to upload and delete and if you elect to allow google to upload via cell data and not just wifi then it will carry against your plan for that. You can also elect to do it via wifi but only when plugged in to keep from draining battery or other resources.

I have mine set to sync via wifi and because I have the 128g, I leave it on the phone until I decide to delete it even though it has already been backed up to the cloud.

Sorry I misunderstood the question.

Under photo storage in google photos there is a section labeled "included photos/videos from google drive " I wonder if its a double dip if this is on. Or if you have selected to store it in both places. I checked mine and I have it off and I am not getting charged space for my videos and photos.

Are we looking at the right folder? I just recorded a 5-minute video to test for you. On Google Drive, in my Google Photos folder, that video shows 0 byte of storage used. My 1,100 pics also show 0 byte. Only this Google Photos folder is what the Pixel provides at no charge. I have other auto-backup photo uploads that do count against my Google Drive subscription. So, does this video reside in your Google Photos folder? Good luck.

Yup, I went from 3.5gb used basically for email and document backups, to almost 8 GB used after recording last night.

This is the first time this has happened. Other videos and photos havent had this issue.

All is well. I took video around Halloween. And did not have this problem. I think it may be a glitch of sorts. I'll redownload it to my phone and upload at the free standard.

Apparently my google photos were also backing up to my google drive separately and I was double charging myself.

I screwed that up somehow.

That was what I said in post #5. My Google Drive also does its own backup of the same photos. I had the same photos and videos backed up twice. Then I turned off Google Drive backup and only use Google Photos backup.

Looks like a few other things had some new switches flipped in my settings. OK google detection was turned off as well. That's half the reason you buy the pixel. I think I lost some settings in the recent updates.

All is well now.
