Is there a vvm app for the One? Do you just have to download something from Play? Ex iPhone person here...So I'm used to having everything already done and ready to go.

Visual voicemail from AT&T is on the play store or there is Google voice. AT&T app is easier to me. Google voice has more options

Just get google voice. It's the best voicemail app around. Visual and free transcription. And the biggest bonus is that when you switch carriers and/or phones you don't lose your voicemail since it all stays in google voice. Try it.

I use google voice now and love it. Most of my friends still have my true number, but I'm slowly getting my GV number out to people. To be fair though, the transcription sucks. It's usually enough that if you're in a meeting and can only read the transcription you get the idea of what was said, but it's success can't be higher than 40%.

OK!! I got it figured out. Are there any other have-to-have apps that I'm probably missing??

Check out SMS+ backup. Backs up all your texts to gmail.
You may want to experiment with keyboards as well...try swype and swift key.

I always recommend Ringo Pro. You get to set individual text tones, tone length, vibration pattern. For the money it's the best app. I've used it for years

Yeah I agree. Transcription needs work but for the most part I can make it out. I rather that for free than the same quality elsewhere for a monthly fee.

Cause this way you can customize YOUR phone, that way YOU want. That's why I love the Android OS. Well one of the many reasons.

Even if its built into the phone you should still be able to use other services. On an iPhone you don't have to use it. You can use Google voice or youmail or whatever is available. Being built it should have no effect on 3rd party solutions.

But the way I want it, is built right into the phone app. How can I customize it my way?

If items built into the phone & is satisfactory for u then use it. If not scour the Play store & find one that better suits your needs. Check settings in the app, some u can customize more others.
It's not the IPhone, play with it!!

What I was saying these phones should have it built in and also allow alternatives for other users. People always assume because a person uses an android phone they like going around search for apps to mimmick stock apps. Everyone doesn't. I think every carrier has a visual voicemail app in the store though or preinstalled so that could be considered your built in functionality. But yeah it would be nice if it was built into the dialer.
