This is the Visual Voicemail (VV) APK from the Evo V.
Turns out, it works on pretty much all VM Android devices.

For those who don't know, VV downloads your voicemail as a sound file to your phone. This lets you fast forward, pause, rewind, delete, etc. as if it was an audio file. The best part is that it is all handled over data, on your phone. You don't waste minutes calling into voicemail and listening to greetings, timestamps, etc.. It's all right there.

You don't need root, just copy to your sdcard then use a file manager to cue the install.
Visual Voicemail - Vmroms

Update: Despite reports of it working, after having a chance to try it myself, this is not working. With luck, maybe someone will figure it out, but I think it may be on Virgin's side that limits it.

Does it d/l automatically or do you have to tell it to? Didn't really see in the settings how you make it work.

is there a chance virgin mobile could suspend my account or something for using this?

Considering this only ships with Androids that require the newer pricing plans, i'm not gonna take a chance of losing my grandfathered rate until this is established working for everyone without any issues, especially among grandfathered users.

I thought the only reason this worked with the Evo V was because it switched you over to the sprint voicemail system? And that was causing people persistent voicemail notification issues because of leftover voicemail on the original Virgin Voicemail system?

It's working on users with the Elite.
I don't see why it would matter on your account type, since even some OV users are on $35 plans.

It works fine for me. And I got that text too... I wonder what it means....

Thanks LeslieAnn, :)

Installed roughly about two hours ago, no problems. I also received the weird text. The only thing is my voicemail's are not showing up?

I'm wondering if in call settings you have to choose it as your voicemail provider? I'm on the lg marquee it installs but doesn't automatically download or give me the notice about data provisioned.

I just checked on that but the only voice mail provider listed is virgin mobile. :(

Hopefully someone can figure out why this is not working and how to get it working, I would love to have this on my phone.

Hint hint, ;)

That text is part of the visual messaging. One thing your going to want to do is block the sender. Otherwise every time you get a voicemail, you will see a msg like that. I had it on my hero when I first rooted it.
I'm downloading now. I'll try it out too. I got it working on my wives evo on boost, so I'll see what I can figure out. I didn't even think of using it myself. Lol

Wow, this apk does not work. Screen is garbled. I'm using a sprint prl too, but it didn't forward the VM to my phone. Oh well, I liked the feature maybe I'll see if I can get one working too.

Hey everyone, don't bother trying to fire up this APK. Sprint has an entirely separate voicemail platform for visual voicemail, unless your device is supposed to have Visual Voicemail, this APK won't work for you.
