Is there a way to check new voice mails without going through all of my saved voice mails on my S4

Welcome to Android Central! Which wireless provider do you use? I thought most voicemail systems play new messages first, followed by saved messages. That doesn't happen with you? Are you actually selecting the option to save the messages you want to save, as opposed to just hanging up?

You could consider trying your wireless provider's visual voicemail service (if available, and it usually costs extra), or using Google Voice (which also has a voicemail transcription service that is free).
