(edit: I'm with Verizon, and have been for years)

Coming from the iPhone, I was able to see my voicemail messages and handle them. Turns out on my new Samsung I would have to pay a monthly fee to do that.

Any good, free apps that simply let me manage my voicemail like I did on the iPhone?

Thanks

I use Google voice. Have for years. It took about a day to set up and work on my S5 but I have it now.

I think you mail is pretty good. I used it years ago with my last android phone. Also a 5s to S5 convert

YOUMAIL is best bet, Visual Voicemail For Your Phone | YouMail I have been using this for the past few years and I love it, you can even port multiple numbers to it. Plus you can set custom voicemails for different users and block unwanted callers or have people you don't want to talk to get a recording saying your number got disconnected with ditch call.

Google Voice

Been using it exclusively since it launched. It may say your carrier doesn't support it during setup but it does indeed work on Verizon.

Youmail seems cool but I have 2 worries.

1. lack of privacy as they get your data and messages.
2. If their servers delay you may not get the messages as fast due to the forwarding.

I am debating whether to go back to youmail. I never had problems but I'm concerned.

I just cancelled my youmail account. It seems that every two months or so, I have to mess around to get it working again. This time around, people would call, get a voice prompt that they could not automatically connect to my voicemail and to enter my full phone number. I only found this out when I asked a friend why she did not leave a message.. Bummer, because I have used it since 2007.
