Voicemail notification 4 hours later

For whatever reason, my Verizon Samsung Galaxy Note 3 didn't ring, went to voicemail, and I didn't get the voicemail indicator for 4 hours. Very frustrating! Any idea why this happened or what I can do to make sure it doesn't happen again? Thanks!

I would suspect some issue with the network. Does this happen often? If so, discuss it with Verizon.
