voicemail notification - 6P Project Fi

Upon hearing that Hangouts is going away from SMS, I decided to use Messenger again as my default SMS app. I then thought, I should stop using Hangouts for my vmail notification. Right now, both the phone app and Hangouts notifies me of a vmail. I only want the phone app to notify me now. In the Hangout settings, I can see where to change the tone/vibrate of the vmail notification, but I don't know how to disable it from Hangouts.

Any ideas? BTW...I still use Hangouts to communicate over data to my sons device, since he doesn't have a device with carrier service. So I'm not abandoning Hangouts altogether.

I answered my own question. I found the setting to disable SMS and Project Fi messages, meaning SMS nor vmail messages would route to Hangouts. Now the phone app only is notifying of new vmails.

Go into the settings of Hangouts, then click on your email address in the settings. This will bring up another menu that has Project Fi as a section where you have SMS and Voicemail settings.
