Voicemail Notification Issues

So I just got my Nexus 6P, set it up on Sprint last night, and used it all day today. I love it so far. Buuuttt, I have a voicemail notification that won't go away. It seems to want to tell me that I have 3 new voicemails but when I call the my voicemail it tells me I have no voicemails and the notification doesn't go away. I have forced stopped the app to get it to go away temporarily but it comes back after a while or after I turn off the device and turn it back on.

Anyone know how to get rid of this?

I have seen others on here say to use Google Voice for the best voicemail experience but I'm unsure of how that works and am afraid it would mess up my number or Sprint service/plan. Am I being ridiculous worrying about nothing and should use Google Voice? I have no problem using the dialer and dialing 1 for my voicemails I just don't want to stare at a voicemail notification that means nothing.

Thanks!

It won't mess anything up and you can even try it and easily go back. I'm on Verizon and used to have visual voicemail, when I switched to the 6P I lost it, don't know if it's not supported or just disappeared because it got cancelled when my phone changed. Either way it motivated me to go and set up Google Voice and in 5 minutes I had 100x better visual voicemail than I ever had with Verizon, and saved $6 a month in the process. Better interface, full text transcription, archive every message forever if you want instead of being limited to 30, PC interface in addition to access on the phone.

Go for it, you won't be sorry.

I signed up for the Google Voice Lite service hoping that would help but no luck. The notification still shows up and the only way I can clear it is by force closing the phone app.

I'm on project fi and the visual voice mail is great. I was under the impression that all 6p's had it as it is native to 6.0

The tab is there in the dialer app but I'm pretty sure it only works for Fi and T-Mobile right now.
